Trauma & Past Experiences
Compassionate support for this challenge.
Trauma & Past Experiences
Past experiences can continue to impact how safe, connected, or secure you feel in the present. Trauma is not always only about what happened to us — sometimes it is also about what did not happen: the comfort, attunement, safety or permission to be ourselves that we needed but did not receive. Together, we gently explore how previous experiences, or the things that were missing, may still be shaping your thoughts, emotions, relationships, or anxiety responses today, always working at a pace that feels safe for you.
Trauma Exists on a Spectrum
Trauma can include:
- Major life-changing events: abuse, loss, accident, assault
- Chronic experiences: neglect, emotional invalidation, unsafe environments
- Unmet emotional needs: never feeling truly safe, supported, or loved
- Experiences that weren't processed: painful events that left you confused or alone
How Trauma Impacts Us
When we experience trauma, our mind and body find ways to survive it. Parts of us often adapt to carry the difficult feelings, or to protect us with beliefs like "I am bad," "It was my fault," "I'm not safe," or "I'm not enough." This is at the heart of Tracie's parts-informed way of working — gently getting to know these parts with curiosity rather than judgement, so they can be understood as adaptations that once helped you survive, not truths about who you are.
Gentle Healing
We work compassionately to:
- Understand how your past experiences still affect you
- Recognize triggers and trauma responses with compassion
- Gradually help your nervous system feel safer
- Process unresolved pain from past experiences
- Rebuild a sense of safety, worth, and possibility
When our body and psyche hold onto something too abnormal to process, it can become our "normal." This is a reminder that you are more than your trauma. Holding onto that hope in session keeps alive the possibility that you, too, can find freedom from the torment of what happened to you.
